One of many ads completed at Rushes for Asda, Christmas 2013. This one features 3 variations of one technique to pull off the 3 transitions between the 3 locations. The transitions were shot twice (once in each environment) using a steadicam rig. Mix and overlay was essential on set to get the timings of each handover as perfectly matched as possible. In Flame, each plate was stabalised, aligned, and then elements were individually morphed and combined with background wipes to complete the feeling of moving seamlessly from house to house.

This was all shot in a black studio on motion control with only 2 dancers. We combined the moco passes. Some keying, rotoscoping. Then tracking in a halo on the angel. It was loads of work and for a very small budget but I wanted to take it on cause I liked the track.

1 of 3 online ads for clothing brand ASOS, directed by Luke Monaghan. This is my my favourite of the three. VFX work included set extensions and beauty work.

A woman goes from working somewhere boring (ironically looks to be a branch of HSBC) to working as a Florist – through the power of stop frame. And her face goes from miserable to happy via the power of me stabalizing each individual frame, motion estimated time-warping them together and re-tracking her eyes and mouth separately back on to her face.

A visit to the 3D cinema turns to mayhem when all the eggs in attendance embark on a mass suicide with inevitable gooey results. A lot of this was ‘in camera’ stop frame animation. We smoothed out some of the moves and added the finishing touches like camera flashes, steam, reflections, 3D tracked exploding ‘Goo’ text and goo. Loads of goo. Goo on the lens. Goo on the walls. Goo. (If you have some 3D glasses handy, the Ready, Steady, Goo text is actually fully stereoscopic)
